Online copywriting services: Why is tone of voice so important?

Online copywriting services can help you develop your tone of voice on the web. Why is defining your brand tone so important for your business?

Well, it is an expression of what you stand for and the type of audience you want to attract.

Get your tone right and it can breathe new life into your brand. Get it wrong and it could suck all of the life out of your business. For this reason, you should never take it lightly.

This is also why you may wish to make use of my online copywriting services…

What exactly is tone of voice?

Tone is the words we use, and the way we construct sentences. It’s also the sound of our words and the personality we project.

As a result, words are just as important to branding as your logo, your choice font and colour on your website.

I’m not just saying that because I’m a freelance copywriter and words are how I make my living.

I’m saying it because that old adage “it’s not what we say, it’s how we say it” is proven fact. And all of the most successful brands know this…

The importance of tone to your brand

Think about the brands you admire, or at least the ones that everyone knows: Virgin, Innocent, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, or the BBC, for example.

All of these companies have distinctive tones of voice that set them apart in the minds of their audiences.

I used the Coca-Cola and Pepsi examples for a reason: They basically sell the same thing – brown, fizzy sugar water. They just present themselves in different ways.

In fact, these brands have completely distinct identities. Much of this is due to tone of voice. Coke ads adopt a more traditional tone to stress the brand’s place in history.

On the other hand, Pepsi adopts a brasher tone to appeal to a younger audience and to highlight its relative youth and modern image; hence the “choice of a new generation” tagline.

A great brand voice inspires your customers

Many people think that they make buying decisions based on rational thought. And while can be a factor, our emotions are the overriding influence in decision-making.

This is why you will do yourself a disservice if you choose to use flat, unemotional words on your website, emails, blog posts, or any marketing materials for that matter.

Emotions are also the key to building familiarity. This in turn is the means by which to build trust in your business.
